Pass The DANB

Read through 3/4th of the book rather quickly and scored a 611 on the Radiology portion of the DANB. I would recommend this book and particularly this version.

I love, love

I love, love, love this book!!! I am in a condensed Dental Assistant Course. I recently started reading this book because the book they gave us was confusing to me. This book is easy to understand, interesting, and has a lot of colored pictures to demonstrate what the book is talking about. If you need to take the RHS you should read this book. I am so happy I found this book! Words can not express what a difference this book is making.

It's True

I am writing a book about women and sex myself. In the process of researching for the book I constantly read books on gender, sex, and sexuality. This is the first `how to have better sex' book that has captured my imagination. It is well written, well organised, underpinned by the best of Western and Chinese sexual knowldeges and best of all, if you follow the suggested practices it does make a difference. I thoroughly recommend it.

Wonderful book!

I had two babies 2 years apart, and then, just 2 years later and still feeling pretty fatigued, had an advanced-stage breast cancer that required 9 surgeries (including double mastectomy), 6 months of chemotherapy, 2 months of radiation--this meant early menopause (at age 40), on top of the treatment-related and small-child-related (and job-related!) fatigue. I got the first edition of this book while undergoing treatments, and it made an enormous difference. Now that I'm completely out of the woods and my children are a bit older, I feel even better, and I do credit much of that to the *Multi-Orgasmic Woman*! I had the privilege of knowing Rachel Carlton Abrams during our high-school years, but I'm not unduly biased towards her work--I mention it only because even then she was a healer, an empathetic and wise person whose very presence was steadying and inspiring. I'm not at all surprised that she has pursued both Western and Eastern medicine at an advanced level, and is finding scientifically valid ways to work with both to improve people's lives. Thanks so much, and I highly recommend this wonderful book--if I can feel this great, at age (almost) 44 and after experiencing many challenges to my sexual and overall well-being, then I know it will help others as well.

Not just for sex

This was a great book. It helped me understand the sexual capabilities of men and women. The exercises made me feel better physically, emotionally, and sexually. It also would be a helpful book for women going through menopause.

With 24 chapters by 52 authors from more than 10 countries, it provides important new perspectives on the definition and meaning of driver distraction and inattention, the mechanisms that characterize them, the measurement of their effects, strategies for mitigating their effects, and recommendations for further research. The goal of this book is to inspire further research and countermeasure development to prevent and mitigate the potentially adverse effects of driver distraction and driver inattention, and, in doing so, to save lives.

About the Author
Michael A. Regan is at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He is also an Adjunct Professor with Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden. Between September 1997 and April 2007 he managed the Human Factors and Simulation Group at the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), in Melbourne, Australia. Michael is the senior editor and a co-author of the first book on driver distraction - "Driver distraction: Theory, Effects and Mitigation", published by CRC Press in 2008 - and initiated and co-chaired the First International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in September 2009. Michael's research interests focus on driver distraction, human interaction with intelligent transport systems (ITS), driving simulation, driver training and human error. He sits on the Editorial Boards of 4 peer-reviewed journals, including Human Factors, and is the author of around 200 publications. He also sits on two Australian, and one international, Standards Committees. In November 2009 Michael received the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia's Cumming Memorial Medal for highly esteemed human factors and ergonomics research and application in the field of transportation safety. John D. Lee is the Emerson Electric professor in the department of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds an appointment in the department of civil and environmental engineering. His research focuses on the safety and acceptance of complex human-machine systems by considering how technology mediates attention. Specific research interests include trust in technology, advanced driver assistance systems, and driver distraction. He is a coauthor of the textbook "An Introduction to Human Factors Engineering" and is the author or coauthor of over 120 articles. John is a co-editor and a co-author of the first book on driver distraction - "Driver distraction: Theory, Effects and Mitigation", published by CRC Press in 2008. He received the Ely Award for best paper in the journal Human Factors (2002), the best paper award for the journal Ergonomics (2005), and a Donald E. Bently Faculty Fellowship. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences committee on human factors and has served on several other committees for the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Lee serves on the editorial boards of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making; Cognition, Technology and Work; International Journal of Human Factors Modeling and Simulation; and is the associate editor for the journal Human Factors. Trent W. Victor, PhD, is currently working as Senior Specialist in Safety Analysis and Human Factors at Volvo Technology, a research and innovation company in the Volvo Group. In addition he is Competence Area Leader for Behavior in Accident Causation at SAFER vehicle- and traffic safety centre at Chalmers technical university. Trent has formal training in psychology (specialized in attention, vision, perception, eye-movements), computer science, human factors, and human-machine interaction. Trent has held various positions at Volvo Technology since 1996 including Product Area Manager for Driver & Work Environment, and Group Manager for Cognitive Ergonomics. Trent has over 15 years work experience in design and evaluation in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems, from research to product introduction phases, especially on In-Vehicle Information Systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and most specifically on Driver Awareness Products. Trent holds over 13 patents or patent applications within the product areas of real-time distraction countermeasures, drowsiness alert, interaction support (workload management), attention-sensitive driving support, impairment detection, and distraction evaluation tools. He has been responsible for the spin-off of a computer vision eye tracking company where he sits on the board of directors. Trent co-chaired the First International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in September 2009. He is the author of more than 30 publications including journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, technical reports.

Intriguing connectivity system elements and architectures

As a practicing system engineer and analyst for a dozen years at both TRW and the RAND Corporation (ASW, IFF systems, SDI, Space Telescope) I have followed the development of laser technology for a variety of civil and military applications. Lab experiments in the 1970s and `80s faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles to long distance extrapolation. At the time, they were the stuff of science fiction.

Mr. Aviv's laser communications ideas in the late 1990s and early 2000s were unappreciated because they were far ahead of their time. In this excellent book he captures those groundbreaking ideas using clear illustrations, detailed equations, and references to existing, proven platforms. With the advent of Low Earth Orbit satellite systems, robust fiberoptic cables, the advances in wireless digital communication, Internet, and nanotechnology, theoretical satcom architectures suddenly entered the realm of feasibility at the turn of the 21st century.
Experiments like the SILEX system produced encouraging results showing that space communications need no longer be restricted to RF. Rather than propose an either/or solution (laser versus RF), Mr. Aviv has combined the best of both in a compelling set of alternative system architectures that are flexible, mobile, built on a fiber backbone, and incorporate Internet features. Nanosatellites are elements of some of the creative architectures.

The same data compression approach is used for RF as for combined laser/microwave downlinks in poor weather. One of the key drivers to any system architecture is weather-related signal losses, which affect Bit Error Rate (BER) and influence the design of sophisticated adaptive optical subsystems. The author has accounted for these essential elements in each architecture discussed. Specific calculations show how significant reduction in the BER can be achieved under a wide variety of situations, including reducing beam distortion from atmospheric turbulence and jitter.

The presentation of the text is well suited to engineering students as well as seasoned practicing aerospace engineers. Mr. Aviv first gives a very helpful, comprehensive history and background showing the development of assorted laser types. Today's technologies allow fiber lasers rather than diode lasers, to be compatible with fiber link cable transmissions.

The Miniaturized Unmanned Ground-based Mobile (MUGM) system is especially interesting and exciting. Transmitting signals via ground-based optical fiber nets as part of a weather avoidance system architecture clearly gives the military an edge in the war on terrorism.

The wideband communication system the author calls Fifth-Generation Internet (5-GENIN) in principle accommodates all of today's systems (including MUGM) and leads the way for new developments through the next decades. Mr. Aviv makes a credible case for this worldwide communication system with connectivity through earth-based Internet systems for spatial and atmospheric laser downlinks and uplinks. No longer the stuff of science fiction!

Although funding for satellite systems and laser research is always in question, Mr. Aviv has anticipated theoretical elements, now in the experimental stage, and described how they could be incorporated into components of existing architectures. He has carefully demonstrated technical feasibility, invaluable to designers of future laser communications systems.

This textbook should have a second edition. It is one of the very best books available on operative technique for intracranial aneurysms and AVMs. It highlights patient & head positioning, scalp flap design, step by step technique for anterior, middle, and posterior lesions, with beautiful artistic rendering of complex anatomy with landmarks. The layer by layer exposure is diagramed well. All the diagrams have succinct captions, which clarify major points and junctures of the operative plans. The section on aneuryms I think is better than the AVM part of the book. Bravo! We need more atlases like this, pushing us further ahead in the minimally invasive realm of modern neurosurgery.

About the Author
Michael W. Graves has worked for more than fifteen years as a network specialist, security analyst, and forensic analyst. He worked as a contractor for the federal government on jobs involving digital investigations ranging from simple employee violations to potential national security threats, and participated in e-discovery for a major bank. Graves holds an M.S. in digital investigation from Champlain College, where he studied under pioneers Gary Kessler and Robert Simpson, among others. He also served several semesters as adjunct professor of computer science for the college.

Superb guide to mastering the art of digital forensics

The book Digital Archaeology: The Art and Science of Digital Forensics starts as yet another text on the topic of digital forensics. But by the time you get to chapter 3, you can truly appreciate how much knowledge author Michael Graves imparts.

Archaeology is defined as the study of human activity in the past, primarily through the recovery and analysis of the material culture and environmental data that they have left behind, which includes artifacts, architecture, biofacts and cultural landscapes.

The author uses archeology and its associated metaphors as a pervasive theme throughout the book. While most archeology projects require shovels and pickaxes; digital archeology requires an entirely different set of tools and technologies. The materials are not in the ground, rather on hard drives, SD cards, smartphones and other types of digital media.

In the preface, Graves writes that in performing an investigation that explores the use of computers or digital data, the investigator is embarking on an archaeological expedition. In order to extract useful artifacts, information when dealing with our topic at hand; the investigator must be exceedingly careful in how he approaches the site. The similarities between a digital investigation and an archaeological excavation are much closer than you might imagine. Data, like physical artifacts, gets dropped into the oddest places. The effects of time and environment are just as damaging, if not more so, to digital artifacts as they are physical mementos.

The book shows you precisely how to extract those artifacts effectively. And in a little over 500 pages, the books 21 chapters, provides a comprehensive overview of every area relevant to digital forensics. The author brings his experience to every page and rather than being a dry reference, Graves writes an interesting reference guide for the reader who is serious about becoming proficient in the topic.

Rather than provide dry overview of the topics and associated hardware and software tools. The books take a real-world approach and provides a detailed narrative of real-world scenarios.

An important point Graves makes is that a digital investigator who does not understand the basic technology behind the systems they are investigating is going to be at a distinct disadvantage. Understanding the technology assists in the investigative process and ensures that the evidence can be held up in court.

The need to a proficiency in digital forensics is manifest in the recent attack against Target stores. After an aggressive attack, the store called in external digital forensics consultants to help them make sense of what happened.

The book starts with an anatomy of a digital investigation, including the basic model an investigator should use to ensure an effective investigation. While the author is not a lawyer; the book details all of the laws, standards, constitutional issues and regulations that an investigator needs to be cognizant of.

The author notes that notes that forensic experts Warren Kruse and Jay Heiser wrote in their definitive tome on the topic Computer Forensics: Incident Response Essentials that the basic computer investigation model was a four-part model with the following steps: assess, acquire, analyze and report. Graves breaks those into more detailed and granular level levels that represent processes that occur within each step. These steps are: identification and assessment, collection and acquisition, preservation, examination, analysis and reporting.

Chapter 2 has a section on the constitutional implications of forensic investigation, of which is the topic is also pervasive throughout the book.

As noted, a significant portion of the book is dedicated to the legal aspects around digital investigations. Graves spends a lot of time on these needed issues such as search warrants and subpoenas, basic elements of obtaining a warrant, the plain view doctrine, admissibility of evidence, keeping evidence authentic, defining the scope of the search, and when the Constitution doesn’t apply.

The only chapter that was deficient was chapter 13 – Excavating a Cloud. Graves writes that the rapid emergence of cloud computing has added a number of new challenges for the digital investigator. The chapter does a good job of detailing the basic implications of cloud forensics. But it unfortunately does not dig any deeper, and does not provide the same amount of extensive tool listings as do other chapters.

For those looking for an introductory text on the topics of digital forensics, Digital Archaeology: The Art and Science of Digital Forensics is an excellent read. Its comprehensive overview of the entire topic combined with the authors excellent writing skills and experience, make the book a worthwhile reference.

The book “Digital Archaeology – the Art and Science of Digital Forensics” by Michael W. Graves sounds like any other boring book on forensics. I expected the same old “chain of custody rules, make exact copies of the hard drive” boring rules we've all read. Not so – Graves starts off with a thorough treatment of Constitutional Law supported by ample and recent case law citations explaining how and why certain procedures must be followed. The most obvious is the forensic examination – what is the legal justification that allows an investigator to actually look inside a computer? Did I say “starts off with . . .?” Actually, the first 20% of the book is devoted to Constitutional Law and it was far from boring, which law seems to be for many people. In this discussion, Graves points out the stark difference between a government investigator (any level of government) and a private investigator (anyone not employed by the government).

Next, Graves develops establishing the credentials to be an investigator, because to be a credible investigator, one must be a credible witness in court, which means one must have credibility – training, certifications, use court-approved tools, and follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of the evidence. Here's where the book gets really intense as Graves details all of the records the investigator needs to keep. Every decision and every action must be meticulously documented, and the clock begins from first contact.

The book also comes with Chapter Exercises and Chapter References. It smacks of a college text book (not a bad thing, but useful to know), which also means it is highly searchable with a good table of contents and a 49 page Index – yes, almost 10% of the book is the Index. I noted a few typographical errors, but all-in-all, a surprisingly good book that really opens the reader's eyes to the minutia and attention to detail required in the world of digital forensics.

If you think you knew something about digital forensics (and are not an investigator), this book will clearly show you how much you don't know.

About the Author
Harry K. Wong and Rosemary T. Wong are award-winning teachers and new teacher advocates. The Essentials

As a teacher going into my second year I am very grateful for this book. I loved reading "The First Days of School" as it gave me a multitude of ideas and inspired me to be as prepared as I could for my first year. This new book has also been an essential piece to my summer planning. It clearly outlines how to set up your own management plan and gives excellent, specific ideas for the procedures that are necessary for a smoothly run classroom. This would have been great to read in my first year, but I still find so much worth in this book as a second year teacher. I highly recommend it.

Great book but...DON'T buy it if you teach high school. Despite the book's description, it is mainly geared toward elementary. Disappointed. I don't need chapters like "CLASSROOM JOBS."

Best Classroom Management Book Ever

I have been involved with Harry Wong and his training for 24 years. This new book has everything a new teacher needs. In fact, veteran teachers will profit from it also. Every time I look at one of Harry's books, I learn something new or innovative. Even with 45 years of experience in education, I love reading his book. My company trains new teachers and I have done this for 24 years and always purchase Harry Wong's book for each teacher.

"The Cornish Pasty" by Stephen Hall will hold the interest of any pasty lover. And there are many of us in the USA--mostly people with ancestors from Cornwall, England or roots in the areas of the USA to which Cornish miners emigrated. The author takes you way back to the ancient history of pasty predecessors and brings you right up to current times when pasties are consumed by the thousands every day, especially in England where they are even mass produced by such companies as Ginsters. If the publisher, Agre Books, ever takes this copyright 2001, out-of-print book to a 2nd printing, Stephen Hall could add a chapter about pasties in the USA. He could write about the areas where you find pasty shops and how you can buy them over the internet from places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
