IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR E-book READERS

I had a major issue with this book which I think is due to it's hybrid nature. Unlike the vast majority of the reviewers who have already posted, I read the the e-book version, complete with the full accompanying graphics (which I do think add a lot to the story). Unfortunately, in e-book form, the formatting of the book causes serious issues. The pages are fixed, unlike most e-books where the words on a given page vary depending on font size and screen size. The book acts more like a .pdf than a traditional e-book, and I couldn't find a way to zoom in or out. In my opinion, in e-book form this book is unreadable on anything smaller than a Kindle Fire or Nook, and it isn't great on those. I tried it on three devices, a Kindle Fire HD, a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my PC. The font is so small on the phone that it was completely unreadable for me. The Kindle Fire worked better, but the font was still very difficult to read. The illustrations worked fine though. The most annoying thing was that I went to my PC thinking that the big screen size would make the book very easy to read, only to find that the Kindle for PC program will not display this book, in fact wouldn't even download it. I made do with the Kindle Fire, but it was a painful read. Anyone with a full size tablet should be OK, but anything smaller will probably be an issue.

Beyond that, however, Ms. Priest's first foray into the YA genre is a fun, if light, read. Numerous other reviewers have left summaries of the book, so I will skip that. As a YA book, I think it will work best for readers at the younger end of that scale. I did enjoy it and will pass it on to my 12 and 13 year old daughters.

It's a tough world and if don't like the story you've been dealt, write your own. Two best friends are torn apart by creepy real world. May will never forget Libby and she won't have to. She's living in pixels. Flickering screens reveal Princess X. Are you up to the quest? The well crafted story is brought to full life illustrations. Good for the YA crowd and gateway to Priest's more adult offering like Boneshaker.

About the Author
Rachel started weaving as a hobby to help jump-start her creativity. It has led to a regular set of tutorial contributions, workshops, and her own experimentation with styles that she offers in flash sales through her Instagram shop. She taught at a Bing-sponsored event and has taught in more intimate settings, including two classes to elementary aged kids. She will be hosting at least one weaving workshop later this summer in her studio, and regularly contributes weaving and other DIY's to A Beautiful Mess blog. She is a regular contributor to magazines, blogs and on-line learning sites. Her e-course topics include art journaling, scrapbooking, sewing, and home styling, and she recently co-released a sewing basics course through A Beautiful Mess. She is a contributor to The Stir , a mom-oriented, lifestyle and fashion-based website that also includes craft roundups, original DIY's, etc. and has had articles in SEW, Artful Blogging, BUST and CRAFT, and Ladies' Home Journal. Her DIY's have been republished online at Curbly, Apartment Therapy, Bob Vila, Design*Sponge, Babble, CafeMom, Design for Mankind, etc. To date, her most popular weaving DIY's have been the aluminum chair makeover, woven rug, and three weaving tutorials for beginner's, all contributions to A Beautiful Mess.

Amazing source for beginner and advanced weavers alike!

I love this book!! I learned to weave from Rachel's tutorials on A Beautiful Mess and have completely fallen in love with it, there is a large variety of tutorials and fun patterns in this book that have definitely kept me interested and busy. There's a lot of great information for beginners but there is also a lot of new tips, patterns, stitches, etc. that will keep intermediate/advanced weavers interested and inspired. Rachel also advances past wall hangings and has some patterns for functional pieces as well (a rug, clutch, table runner...) that are so so beautiful and have inspired me to take weaving even further than just small wall hangings, as well as tons of sources for yarn and materials. This book is so worth it and I really can't think of anything bad to say!

Love this book! As a beginner weaver I have learned so much that I was not able to find online or in other books. Even for an experienced weaver this is a great book with unique designs and beautiful photography. I have already complete one project and can't wait to make more!

Seriously Amazing Book for Wall Weavings!

Yayyyy finally a book written with the beginner in mind. I absolutely love this book cover to cover. The pictures are great, the instructions clear, the large variety of techniques are explained well; it is perfect. I should have purchased this book first, but unfortunately I waited for the release of another weaving book that just fell way short of what I thought it was going to be. This is the type of book I wanted. I love that the author lists her suppliers of tools and yarns and even how to construct your own loom rather than running out to buy one. Basically you can get started immediately after getting this book with very few supplies needed. Awesome job Rachel! You deserve all the positive reviews for this book. It was well thought out and very well written. Amazing! Even intermediate weavers would love this book! 11 wall weavings in total for you to draw inspiration from! Cannot wait to get started!

About the Author

Holds true to the original

I am a huge Jane Austen fan so I was thrilled when I saw Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Emma available as Mangas. It holds true to the original plot, although it can't get everything because it has a lot of pictures and very little text comparatively. The drawings are gorgeous and I loved their vision for what the characters look like. If you're an Austen fan, you'll really appreciate this.

Lovely Work That Will Make Everyone Love Reading Classics

I am an uncultured swine (Pixar’s Toy Story) because I haven’t read a single one of Jane Austen’s books. I have two in physical and the rest in ebook, but I just haven’t gotten myself to it. I struggle most of the time with classics because of how heavy the reading might feel, even if I enjoy the story. Which brings me to this: Manga Classics are a life saver and a wonder of pop culture.

This being the second manga I read from Jane Austen’s stories, I loved every moment of it. The drawings were very striking and very manga-like (Japanese drawing style of comics and graphic novels). Many of the settings, clothes, hairstyles, and other minor things were exactly like the ones you see in movies and series of the Regency Era, and lovely for the eye.

Since this is an adaptation, there might be things omitted from the original work by Austen, but it keeps the essence of Emma in its characters and turn of events in a language that is simple to grasp. It also leaves space to get the reader interested and involved enough to read the complete, non-illustrated book heh. It also got me interested to watch the movie Clueless by understand that it was a modern tell of Emma (not Pride and Prejudice, as some have told me) and very fun to watch.

Everyone’s hard work into the drawings, editing, adaptation of the text, everything was wonderfully made, and I look forward to reading many more of these manga in the future.

A great way to reintroduce a classic

Emma Woodhouse and her father now live alone now that her governess, who she helped set up, has married. She has set her sights on trying to set up her new friend Harriet. Emma is concerned about people’s status, and although the social class Harriet is unknown, Emma is determined to set her up with someone in good standing because she believes that Harriet’s character shows she has a similar background.

Mr. Knightley, a friend of Emma’s, encourages a farmer to pursue Harriet, but Emma has other plans in mind. Emma, herself, as vowed never to marry because of her father’s particular way of liking to live. Will Emma’s matchmaking schemes backfire?

I have only read a few classics and have never finished one by Jane Austin. When I was about thirteen or so, I tried reading Pride and Prejudice, but I think I wasn’t at a mature enough level to truly enjoy reading a classic. When I was about eighteen, I started to read a small handful of classics and enjoyed them quite a bit.

I was so excited when I saw this cover on Net Galley. I love reading manga and thought this would be a good way to reintroduce myself to Jane Austen’s world. I truly loved the artwork, and the artwork is one thing that draws more to manga. I can get really picky about drawings in manga and was not disappointed by the artwork.

Mr. Knightley was my favorite character in this book. He is one of the only ones that even tries to reign in Emma. I really didn’t like her at first because of how she viewed people’s standing. She does at least know she has that problem and does apologize once in the book when Mr. Knightley points out what happens.

I hope there are plans of doing Jane Eyre because that is my favorite classic that I have read so far. Hopefully, if readers like reading the manga, they will try reading the original.

Buy it without regret!

I’ll cut to the chase…if you plan to be or already are a hand tool woodworker or even a machine woodworker who uses hand tools here and there…buy this book by Paul Sellers. Period.
“Essential Woodworking Hand Tools“
OK, now the long story version.
Mr. Sellers’ new book is the culmination of over fifty years of experience in the implementation and teaching of hand tool woodworking captured in the written word, with photos and, my personal favorite, hand drawings by Mr. Sellers. All of that information is brought together into an almost five hundred page tome that could and should become a woodworkers reference manual on the use and care of, well, the essential woodworking hand tools.
Using his straight forward, down to earth approach, Mr. Sellers introduces each tool that he considers to be essential to the hand tool woodworker. He then explains and illustrates their use and care. If a tool has a cutting edge, he explains and illustrates how to sharpen it. All of this information is enhanced with detailed color photographs and the aforementioned hand drawings. The information is so comprehensive that I believe this book could easily be used as a textbook on the subject of woodworking hand tools.
The book is so comprehensive that I’m not even going to attempt to list what all is covered. Did I mention the book is almost five hundred pages long? What I will add is that the book is organized into clear, concise chapters as well as having an exhaustive index. This makes finding a specific tool or technique quick and easy. Did I mention the book is almost five hundred pages long?
In addition to covering the conventionally produced hand tools, Mr. Sellers also provides alternatives to many of the tools. These shop-made alternatives can act to supplement and/or bridge the gaps in a persons’ current tool collection and can be quite helpful in mitigating up-front tool costs for those just getting started.
So now I will simply refer you back to my opening statement:
If you plan to be or already are a hand tool woodworker or even a machine woodworker who uses hand tools here and there…buy this book by Paul Sellers.

This is an astounding book!

This is an astounding book. It is not a projects book, however, so if that is what you want buy something else. What this book offers is a crystal clear description of almost all the hand tools that most woodworkers use regularly--what to look for in choosing a tool how to maintain it and how to use it most effectively.

I did not purchase the DVD version as I had subscribed to the author's YouTube channel and watched 25 to 30 videos before buying the book. While I could be wrong, I made an assumption that the DVD contained most of the same content. Anyone who has not seen Paul Sellers' channel should seriously think about purchasing the DVD version.

This book has great information that is wonderfully written and easy to understand. The pictures are very well done - something I find a lot of similar books don't do right. This is a great book to pick up if you are wanting to learn more about hand tools and the traditional woodworking approach.
