Couldn't put this one down once I started reading it. Detailed without becoming tedious, and with extracts from letters by the people who actually fought the war. If you have always wondered how it was won and why, and where it was fought, this is the book you want to read. Covers the important battles in the North, and even better, the battles in the South. This is good stuff, read it and enjoy.

Most books on history tend to be dry, detailed narratives. This book brings the story of the American Revolution to life through first person accounts of the experiences of men and women from both sides of the conflict. These first hand accounts give the reader a real sense of what the participants thought and felt at the time the events took place. I highly recommend this book.

Based on a True Story

As a fan of high school football it this book was a very enjoyable read. It was nice to relive some great moments from the past while learning about some others. This book features some of the legendary teams, programs, coaches, and players. It also details some of the legendary games.

I am concerned about the number of errors I found just in the sections pertaining to the school that I am familiar with. At one point it said a player graduated in 1965 then named him as a running back on the 1968 team.

I would recommend this book but also treat it like a movie that is advertised as being based on a true story.

The Human Journey Main idea book.

This is a wonderful supplement to the text. I never had a workbook, so this gave me more options. It is great for the students to use the book as a research tool to answer the questions as well. In these times with great emphasis on reading comprehension this is a great way to enhance learning.

Introduction to the Categorical Imperative

Kant is a tough read, and the introduction in this translation by James Ellington is not of much help. The translation itself is good, and the reader is able to cautiously approach Kant in a way that he might be mentally tussled with.

Kant introduces the categorical imperative in this work. A basis for much of his philosophy, the categorical imperatve. This approach links reason and morals together, and places obligation for moral action squarely within the realm of reason. Taking this approach, Kant then explores our common sense of duty, oulining four scenarios where the actor is able to be analyzed in light of the catagorical imperative to behave morally.

Kant's bottom line is that there is a universal moral law, based in logic. The suppliment, "On a Supposed Right to Lie because of Philanthropic Concerns" is a solid example of this in action, where Kant makes the argument that it is never morally right to lie, and ultimately any lie should subject the liar to punishment, or the possibility thereof.

A tough read, especially section 3, but a cornerstone of philosophical thought, and one that will make the reader really think - if they can grasp the principles.
